Lia Montgomery began meditating in 1977 with training in Transcendental Meditation (TM). In 1985, she began her daily practice of the Mahayana tradition of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, which she continues to practice to this day, along with regular zazen meditations. She is also a devoted follower of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama and considers herself an on-going student of Tibetan Buddhism. She has participated in many initiation ceremonies (Seattle, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Madison) and attended the Dalai Lama's intensive teaching on Shantideva's Guide to a Bodhisattva's Way of Life and Kamalashila's Middling Stages of Meditation (Madison, Wisconsin, 2003). Her most recent initiation was held at the Deer Park Tibetan Temple in Madison, Wisconsin in July of 2015. Lia has included meditation practices as part of her counseling therapy for over 30 years. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from The Jane Addams School of Social Work, University of Illinois (1977), and a Masters in Social Work from Arizona State University (2003).
Private and Small Group Meditation Sessions:
Each session begins with an introduction to meditation. Focus is given to several areas of study and concentration. Sitting for 20 minutes of Insight Meditation we focus on the breath and sacred mantra while maintaining a quiet posture of the body to create stillness in the mind. When weather permits, we will walk the spa grounds while maintaining a mindfulness practice of awareness and silence. After the final sit, questions and thoughts about the experience are welcome. Private sessions may vary.
90 Minute Private Session:
